[The sound of wood splintering and catching on fire can be heard in the background.]

This whole thing's pissin' me off. When they gonna leave, huh?

[Another crash and a burst of flame.]

Ugh! Aight, who wants a fight? 'Cause I gotta burn this feelin' off before I go completely nuts.

[When he stepped forward, Beat jumped to his feet, ready for another fight until Firo calmed down and backed off. When he does, so does Beat.]

....Aight.

[He straightens and rubs the back of his head.]

'Cause I kinda wanna keep growing once I ain't dead no more. Jus' checkin' that this place ain't stunning my growth or nothin'.

[He'd almost forgotten what Beat mentioned to him about being dead or something similar back home. In all honesty, he has no idea what that would mean in terms of growing, but he smiles reassuringly.]

I know a kid who's grown some while he's been here, so I think you should be fine. If you're alive here, it shouldn't matter what you were back home, right?

[He rubs the back of his head a little more, trying to think, but the act just makes him frustrated and he musses his hair under his beanie, growling.]

RRRRRGH. I dunno, it's all stuff I never paid no attention to.

[He lets out a loud sigh and holds his hands up. After a minute, they start going transparent.]

I gotta think or this stuff happens.

Yeah, me neither-

...Jesus!

[He stares at Beat's disappearing hands in silent shock. Thinking hard about their conversation several months ago, he recalls that Beat mentioned something about needing to maintain concentration.]

That's what happens when you don't think? That's crazy!

[He balls his hands into fists and closes his eyes and the transparency fades, becoming more opaque until his hands are again visible normally.]

Yeah, it ain't nothing big though. Don't seem to be goin' much past the hands, so I guess I'm just kinda stuck in jumbo. [Limbo, Beat. Limbo.]

[Firo watches Beat's hands closely, finally relaxing when they return to normal.]

Jumbo..?

[Unable to guess the word Beat meant to use, he writes it off as slang he doesn't know and moves on to what's really bothering him.]

How can you call that nothin' big? That's crazy! How do you remember to think all the time?

[Firo tries to avoid thinking when he can.]

Eh, it ain't nothin' hard.

[He relaxes a little and shakes his hands out.]

Do it once, it works for awhile. 'Sides, if I forget I start dropping stuff 'cause I don't got hands no more, so it's pretty easy to remember.

...That sounds horrifying.

[Not that Beat needs a reminder.]

There's gotta be somethin' you can do about all that. It doesn't happen to anybody else, does it?

[RUDE--- well, no it's true. He just stopped caring about it a long time ago.]

Nah, it's 'cause of what happened to me back home and all. But 'cause I got here instead a' finishin' up there, I'm kinda stuck like this.

An' the only other guy here who can do anythin' 'bout it is the guy I slugged in the face. And I'd slug 'im again, 'cause he pisses me off.

What'd he do to bother you?

[If he's the only person who can fix it, perhaps he had something to do with making it happen in the first place? What kind of person can even do that?

Wherever Beat comes from, Firo thinks it must be pretty weird.]

That jerkwad is friends wit' my sister an' she ain't gotta clue 'bout who he really is. But 'cause they friends I can't go and punch the hell outta him no more.

Is he dangerous? You should just tell her who he is and then you can punch him.

[And then everything will be solved, right?]

He ain't done nothin' here so I can't do nothin' to 'im.

What about whatever he did back home? You can't tell her about all that?

The others said I can't so I'm doin' what they said, but HNNNGH. [He turns and punches the tree, causing a spurt of fire to jump to life around his fist.]

Don't mean I like it.

[He jumps.]

So are they all clueless about what he is or what he did too?

[At least so long as said person wasn't connected to their Family, if someone pissed Firo off he's pretty sure his friends would give him every blessing to go ahead and beat them up. Isn't that what friends do?]

[He grits his teeth.]

[He agitatedly ruffles his hair under his beanie and then kicks the tree.]

That really sucks.

...If he's that bad, maybe you could punch him now and deal with the consequences later?

[Some people just really need to be punched and the satisfaction would make up for any scolding.]

But that was when I couldn't talk so he didn't hear me comin'. The jerk.

[Firo doesn't know the object of Beat's aggression, but he smiles anyway. Beat certainly seems pleased.]

Good for you. But you can't stay quiet long enough to ambush someone?

[Shut up, Firo, you can't either.]

[Firo doesn't care too much for it either way; he won't start a fight with a sucker punch, usually, but he feels no guilt about coming out of the blue at a rowdy patron.]

[He shrugs.]

Sure. I'm not sayin' it's a bad thing... but just keep in mind that thinkin' like that can get you into trouble sometimes.
